Ux Design

Ux design stands for user experience

The objective of ux design is to plan how something looks and works to make the activity of using it easy and enjoyable.

There are 3 factors to look at when looking at the requirements of ux design.

It must meet user’s needs and must be easy to learn. That’s not all it must also give the user control and freedom , and as an added bonus it must also surprise and delight the user.

Another thing u need to look at when creating is that you need to provide the service to the best of its ability. The user must always be able to come to use your service and get whatever outcome they came to achieve.

For example. If the service your providing is a food delivery service, you have to be able to deliver the food and deliver it within the time you say you will deliver it in and the most efficient way possible. Also being able to easily navigate your way through the app or website without having any confusion or issues.

Second factor of this would be that even if you haven’t used this service before you will know what to do even if you have never used it he service before it should be straight forward and it should be easy to use as if you had already used it 100 times.

The third factor you would look at in this service would be to give the user complete control and freedom to do whatever they need to do. For example being able to cancel , edit or reschedule orders , anything the user would want to do they should be able to do it.

And the bonus factor being surprise and delight could mean something easy like getting a voucher for another other order after using the service.

The core factor you have to look at is that the service is all about the user. Products that don’t have good Ux design aren’t taking the users needs into consideration.

The reason that most big companies are now understand the value of good ux design is because they now know that with good service people are more likely to come back and or recommend people to come and use your service again and again.

But what does all this mean ?

Let’s look at the difference between good and bad Ux design.

Let’s take a microwave for example , if you go to a friends house or anywhere that has a microwave and you can’t seem to understand it and or get it to work because maybe it has too many buttons and isn’t straight to the point , this is because the person who designed the microwave did not take into consideration that the user might be confused or take a minute to operate a products that should take them 2 seconds. A good example of a microwave that has good Ux design would be the normal old fashioned microwaves where you just come up and twist the nob to get it started. The designer has thought about the user and wants to make their experience with the product as easy as possible.

Another example that we can use are doors. Think about how many times your pushed a pull door. There are so many doors that look good and normal but are poorly designed. For example doors that have a handle on both sides without and clear indication of whether you should pull or push. A good ux design would work only have a handle on one side where your meant to pull and as well as that will also have a pull , push sign. This shows that the designer has taken these type of problems into account and helped design it in the best way they can to make the users experience easy and efficient.

Another thing we can look at is how to make a bad design good. Although a lot of designs are very poor and don’t actual have an easy fix to them but when you look are doors you could edit the design to work with the poor users need. For example. The door that you can’t understand if it’s a push or pull door because of the double sided knobs could easily be transformed into a door that opens in either direction. This would solve the issue you had with people pulling and push door or pushing a pull door. Ux design is so important and I didn’t know how important it actually is until I started researching about it.

5 fundamental steps

Understand - understanding the users needs , motivations and goals.

Analyse - interpreting data and research into a clear direction.

Ideate - generating ways and ideas to solve users problems.

Validate - testing the design with real people.

Iterate - when you go back through the steps and continuously improve and develop the product over time

It’s really important to design your product not only to look good but to be able to perform good and meet the expectations and go beyond to aid and assist in the users experience.

That’s all for today and I hope I was able to cover everything to help you understand Ux design.
